paul mauriat
- the way we were (1975)
....................

....................

i feel that these pages are missing something big if i don't include paul mauriat at this point. i've seen a fair amount of his stuff online, more than franck pourcel and raymond lefevre but i still just have to post some of my favourite albums.
as with his two french compatriots, paul mauriat's golden era was for me the first half of the seventies. true, "blooming hits" is a classic and "love is blue" sold millions of copies, but in terms of what really turns me on, 71 - 75 is where it's at. "the way we were" (a different title or even cover depending on where you live) was my fist love with mauriat, and i almost had a stroke when i stumbled across a sealed copy some years back. i see on the net the rest of the world seems to have sealed copies but over here not so. "angie baby" is absolutely brilliant, but "i won't last a day without you" is not of this world. i imagine that when i die and i start to rise up through the clouds with sun streaming down on me from above, this is the song i will hear. for those of you interested in the most complete discography of mauriat's on earth, see peter from taiwan's site - peter, thank you for a marvellous job!
http://www.peter.com.tw/mauriat/mauriat_w75.htm
each page represents a year, and details are provided for every album released in every country, quite a feat when you consider that his albums were marketed very differently depending on the country of release.
